What this is

The site publishes the transcriptions produced in the みんなで翻刻 project アイヌ関連資料, started in April 2026, as structured open data. Each source is shown beside the facsimile served by its holding institution, and the transcription is available as TEI. Wordlists are additionally parsed into items so that a historical katakana spelling can be searched, compared and, where the evidence allows, given a modern Ainu form.

Whose words

These records were written by Japanese and European authors who heard Ainu and wrote it down in their own scripts. They are evidence about the language as outsiders recorded it, and the site presents them as such.

Editorial status

A page's status comes from the platform: not started, in progress, transcribed. Crowd transcriptions contain errors; the platform's own data release reports roughly one and a half per hundred characters. Checking against the facsimile and interpreting forms are separate editorial steps recorded in the data.

Sync

The dataset is harvested from the platform on a schedule. Pages still in progress appear with a link to the platform so that readers can help finish them.

Licence

Transcriptions and derived data are CC BY-SA 4.0, attributed to the contributors of the platform project. Facsimile images belong to the holding institutions and are shown from their IIIF servers under their own terms, linked from each witness.
