『蝦夷草紙』で異国船が江嶋丁村沖を出た後に碇泊した沖合の沿岸村。住民が漁船で近寄って船を観察したと記す。『蝦夷草紙』の短い表記だけでは村の所在地を確定できない。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
