『蝦夷草紙』で七重と銭亀沢の間に挙げられる東在郷の農村名。畑作を主業とする七か所の一つとされる。翻刻の「上山」が現在のどの村名に対応するかは別史料との照合を要する。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
