『蝦夷草紙』が石崎村などとともに硯石の産地として挙げる海浜。汐首・箱館東方の沿岸地理を手掛かりに比定する名称。筆者はそこで得た石を江戸で硯に加工させたと記す。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
