メナシはアイヌ語の東方を表す語に関わる地域呼称。蝦夷地の東側、特に根室・知床方面を指す用法がある。『蝦夷藪話』ごとに指す範囲が異なり、語彙表の「東」という訳語と地名としての用法を区別する。
