紀州の薗村（そのむら）。『蝦夷草紙』では船主堀川八右衛門の所在地として記され、宝暦6年に択捉へ漂着した船の出自を示す。現在の和歌山県内の旧村との対応は船主記録を用いて確かめる必要がある。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
