『蝦夷藪話』で、厚岸・めなしから続く蝦夷地の名の列に現れる。広い陸続きの地域と金属資源を述べる伝聞の一部。一般名詞「渓谷」と同一とは決めず、仮名の地域名として保留する。
本文の呼称からの暫定分類。語源と現代の地名との対応は未確認。
