茅部（かやべ）方面の海岸を指す歴史的地名。『蝦夷島奇観』では湯の崎の丘で古い甲冑状の品が掘り出された記事の所在地。現在の渡島半島東岸の茅部地域との対応を考えられるが、出土地点は別に特定する必要がある。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
