北海道駒ヶ岳南麓、現在のじゅんさい沼に当たる江戸期の湖名。七飯町は明治期に名称が変わったと説明する。『北海随筆』では大沼と並記され、現在「小沼」と呼ばれる湖は当時の大沼に含まれていた。
大沼と対になる日本語の湖名。現代の小沼にはアイヌ語ポン・トに由来するという説明があるが、それを旧称小沼（現在のじゅんさい沼）にも適用できるかは未確認。
