『蝦夷草紙』で黄銅を産するとロシア人が伝えた島の名。ロシア語の「銅の島」に関わるメドヌイ島の呼称が候補で、龍谷大学本にはメツノイヲヽストロフという形がある。鉱物の性質は伝聞として記す。
