『蝦夷草紙』龍谷大学本が北海道のくびれた所の山越えの通路と説明する名。口蝦夷と奥蝦夷を区別する地理的目印で、他本は「シフワ」越と翻刻される。支笏・千歳方面との関係を検討できるが、ここでは一本の現代道路に確定しない。
