『蝦夷草紙』の島々の規模と間隔を述べる箇所で、国後島の次に置かれた島名。国文研本99コマ5行の原文は「ストロウ」。同本99コマ8–9行の「ヱトロウ島」および91コマ4–5行の表記により、読本では「ヱトロウ」と推定して校訂する。択捉島との対応が考えられるが、記載された緯度・周回の数値には誤差がある。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
