『蝦夷草紙』国文学研究資料館本で、北海道を半開きの扇にたとえた時の右端に置かれる地名。左端のソウヤと対になり、龍谷大学本の対応箇所は「メナシ」。東側の地域名の表記差として検討する。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
