現在のせたな町大成区太田、日本海岸にある信仰の山。太田神社の山岳霊場として知られ、航海の安全を祈る信仰と結びつく。『北海随筆』でも信心のある者が参詣する山として挙げられる。
地名の基部「太田」はアイヌ語由来。「ヲヲタ」などの漢字表記とする『日本歴史地名大系』は山名としての使用と『北海随筆』の表記も挙げる。「山」は日本語の地形語。アイヌ語形の細かな分解・意味はここでは確定しない。
