唐代の中国史料がキルギス系の人々・国に用いた呼称。『蝦夷島奇観』は本草文献の引用中、獣の産地として挙げる。近世北海道の地名でも、現在のキルギス共和国と同じ国境の国でもない。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
