ポルトガルに対応する国名の音写。イベリア半島西部の国で、『蝦夷草紙』ではロシア帝都の西方の国々とともに挙げる。「皆オロシヤニ属セリ」という『蝦夷草紙』の説明は伝聞に基づく認識で、実際の領有関係として採用しない。
名称の言語的由来は未確認。
