口蝦夷
口蝦夷（くちえぞ）は、松前から見て近い側の蝦夷地を指す歴史的地域名。現在の北海道南西部、概ね渡島・檜山・後志・胆振の地域にあたる。『蝦夷草紙』巻二の地境の説明では、口・奥を遠近の呼称とし、国文学研究資料館本は山越えの通路より松前寄りを口蝦夷とする。この通路の名は龍谷大学本で「シコツ越」、国文学研究資料館本で「シフワ」越と翻刻されている。指す範囲には時期・史料による幅があり、上記四地域の現在の境界と一致するとは限らない。
松前からの遠近を「口／奥」で表す日本語の地域呼称。『蝦夷草紙』は日本に近い蝦夷地を口蝦夷、遠い蝦夷地を奥蝦夷と説明する。
