増毛（ましけ）。北海道北西部、日本海岸の港・地域。『北海随筆』では光國が派遣した船の到達地で、宗谷へ達せず戻ったと記す。増毛町によれば、名はアイヌ語で「かもめの多い所」に由来する。
増毛町によると、マシュキニ／マシュケ（mashukini / mashuke）は「かもめの多い所」の意味。石狩方言のアイヌ語講座では、増毛を Maske（アクセント付きでは Máske）と記す。
