樺太北西岸のルプロワ（Lupolovo）に対応する。大塚和義は現地調査に基づき、旧称ナニヴォと間宮林蔵のナニヲーをこの集落に結び付ける。 『蝦夷紀行』で樺太の極北の地と説明される集落。『蝦夷紀行』は家が五、六軒あるとし、ここまでの沿岸と対岸との関係から樺太が島であることを検討する。筆者の「極北」を現代の島の最北端と即断しない。

大塚の現地調査では旧称はナニヴォ。「ヴォ」は村を表す。第一要素「ナニ」が指す生物は確定しておらず、鳥という説明も推測として記録される。
