Tamura segments the word as ar-o-paykar-us: ar- ‘really’ (ほんとに), o- ‘its bottom/end’ (その尻), paykar ‘spring’ (春), and us ‘… attaches to …’ (…に…がつく). The initial aro contains ar- and o-. She glosses the whole expression as ほんの春先に ‘at the very beginning of spring’; the entry does not explain the semantic connection between ‘its bottom/end’ and this meaning. Tamura explicitly records aropaykarus for very early spring, closely accounting for the complete アロバイカルウシ, including its final ウシ. The short arpaykar is attested in NINJAL and proposed by the companion transcription of アロバイカル, but omits part of this source form. Batchelor’s Aropaikara/Arupaikara provide shorter early-spring comparisons; Hirayama cites the latter. Whole aropaykarus has zero corpus matches, which does not cancel its dictionary attestation. Spaced aropaykar us and final-vowel aropaykarusi remain comparisons. Tamura’s modern March–early-April explanation is not assigned as a fixed date range for the historical record.
