「煙」

sipuyamedium
Sipuya is retained: eleven corpus records in the nam-kuzuno collection use this spelling, including sioynane sipuya kurkasi with a Japanese translation referring to sacred smoke. This supports the recorded シブヤ without silently substituting supuya. Tamura and Nakagawa supply supuya as a related smoke word. The corpus metadata date the sample recording to 1986; these later prayer texts do not prove eighteenth-century pronunciation or independent evidence from eleven speakers.
Tamura 1996 s.v. supuya「煙。…」; Nakagawa 1995 s.v. supuya「煙;スプヤ アッ supuya at 「煙が上がる」。…」; corpus nam-kuzuno/0/001#174 and ten other nam-kuzuno records; Uehara/Fukasawa comparison extract s.v. シブヤSource passage
