「昼八ツ時」

cup honenemedium
Honene means to turn or change direction. Three corpus records use cup honene with Japanese translations describing the sun beginning to incline. This supports the separated expression and the repetition of ネ represented by ヽ. Cuphonene tests joining; honene alone has an afternoon definition in Batchelor, where cup ram is another comparison. The sun’s movement fits the afternoon setting, but neither the broader narrative wording nor Batchelor’s approximate hour precisely identifies historical 昼八ツ時.
