Cuppawsi retains the existing scholarly proposal, with confidence reduced to guess. Fukasawa 2016 p.84 prints this form but leaves the analysis uncertain. Cup hawsi follows the kana more literally without supplying an attested evening expression. Batchelor's Paushi ‘put on the head’ does not establish that meaning, and cup ahun is a semantic comparison with different sounds. The companion's ‘sun becomes large’ explanation and the exact 暮六ツ時 correspondence remain unconfirmed.
