cup'ohottar?guess
The existing cup'ohottar? proposal is retained with guess confidence. Fukasawa 2016 p.84 prints this analysis and marks it as requiring further study. Cup ohottara, cupohottara and cup ohot tara are alternative divisions or transliterations of the kana, with no additional lexical evidence that would justify replacing that proposal. Tamura's transitive tarara ‘hold something up’ does not establish a sun-rise construction. Cup hetuku is a semantic comparison with different sounds. The tail and its relation to 朝五ツ時 remain unresolved.
