トノ

Ainu

「武士」

tonomedium
The Japanese loan tono denotes a lord, official, patron, or respectful address to a Wajin man. It can fit the source’s 武士, but its documented range is wider than a fixed warrior class. Batchelor’s separate daylight entry and Tamura’s uncertain song refrain are excluded as proof of this title. Corpus frequency cannot by itself distinguish these uses.
Tamura 1996 s.v. tono「(ウポポの中に出てくる意味不明の語。… / ①殿様、 旦那(和人の男子を呼ぶ敬称)、 役人。…」; Batchelor 1938 s.v. Tono「adv. Daylight. By day. Also “to shine.” / n. A chief. A government officer. An official. The government.」, PDF p.505Source passage
